Knowing that she wanted to be a dentist from a young age, Dr. Sheppard attained her Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University while working as a dental assistant. In 2011, Dr. Sheppard graduated from the University of Michigan, earning her Doctor of Dental Science degree. Since then, Dr. Sheppard has spent years in both private practice and public health, and has also worked in administrative dentistry as a Quality Control Director for dentists. Dr. Sheppard is a member of both the American and Michigan Dental Assocations.
While Dr. Sheppard is orginally from Clinton, the Sheppard family has recently moved to Gaylord. Dr. Sheppard and her husband have two wonderful daughters, Ryann and Emma. The girls are sweet, energetic, and keep their parents on their toes. The Sheppards enjoy the outdoors (boating, golfing, and snowmobiling), and are looking forward to all that Gaylord has to offer.
Dr. Sheppard is looking forward to continuing to provide you and your family with the same excellent care provided by Dr. Sherman and Dr. Kooistra.
Dr. Ralph Kooistra is orginally from Grandville, MI. He first graduated from Michigan State University with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Theology, then from the University of Detroit Mercy with a Doctor of Dental Science degree with Summa Cum Laude honors. After three years in the U.S. Army, including one year of advanced general dentistry training, Dr. Kooistra spent the next two years at the University of Missouri in Kansas City attending a pediatric dentistry graduate program. Dr. Kooistra has been providing dental services to patients from all over Northern Michigan at our private practice since 1997. Dr. Kooistra is a member of the Michigan Dental Association, American Dental Association, Vacationland Dental Society, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Laurie A. ShermanDDS
Orginally from East Jordan, Dr. Sherman pursued undergraduate studies at both the University of Michigan and Central Michigan University. After graduating with her Doctor of Dental Science degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, Dr. Sherman immediately returned home to Northern Michigan where she has been in private practice since 1993. Since then, Dr. Sherman has also attended the Engel Institute, where she has had extensive training in dental implants. While Dr. Sherman enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, she has a special interest in both dental implants and TMJ diagnosis and therapy. Dr. Sherman is an alumni of the Dawson Academy and the Piper Education and Research Center.
Dr. Kooistra and Dr. Sherman are married and the proud parents of two daughters, Elizabeth and Christina. Outside of work, you may fine Dr. Kooistra spending time with his girls or snowmobiling. Dr. Sherman cherishes family time and relaxing with her horses.
Both Dr. Sherman and Dr. Kooistra are committed to providing a combination of the best state-of-the-art dentistry and tried-and-true traditional methods with which their patients are comfortable.
Amanda CollierRDHOffice Manager
As she is both our office manager and a dental hygienist, Amanda's smiling face can be found anywhere in our office. A Gaylord native, Amanda began working here straight out of Gaylord High School in 1993. Since recieving her Associates of Science from Lansing Community College, Amanda has been practicing dental hygiene for the last sixteen years. Amanda and her husband, William, have been happily married for twenty-two years. The Colliers have two sons, David and Zane. In her spare time, Amanda loves to read and spend time outdoors in the sunshine, especially at the beach.
Bringing over thirty years of dental experience with her, Debbie has been with our office since 2016. After graduating from Cadillac High School, Debbie received her Associate of Science at Ferris State University. Debbie and her husband, John, have one adult daughter. Together, they love being grandparents and enjoy boating, camping, and traveling anywhere away from the plentiful snow with which Gaylord blesses us.
Sarah GreenfieldRDH, BSHygienist
After attending Ferris State University and graduating with her Bachelor of Science degree, Sarah first began with our office in 2012. Sarah's twins keep her busy with soccer, dance, and taekwando. When she has free time, Sarah enjoys hiking, camping and kayaking.
Everyone knows Linda! For the last eighteen years, Linda has answered calls and welcomed patients into Alpine Family Dentistry. Born and raised here, Linda has lived her entire life in Gaylord. Linda married her husband, Lee, forty-six years ago. Together, Lee and Linda have raised six children. Twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in four different states keep them moving. Linda loves to entertain, cook, travel, and camp with friends and family.
Starting here in 1999, Ginger has been with our office for twenty years now! Orginally from Davison, Ginger has lived in the Gaylord area since 1975. Married for forty-nine years, Ginger and her husband share three children and eleven grandchildren. The Hammonds love music, including playing the piano, organ, accordion, and singing.
Carla HarderDental Assistant
Carla has been providing quality care in our practice for the last fifteen years as a chairside dental assistant. Prior to our office, Carla was also a Certified Orthodontic Assistant with years of valuable experience. Carla and her husband, Brian, have six children altogether. When she is not at the office, Carla can be found boating, decorating cakes, or spending time with her family.
Jessica MasonRegistered Dental Assistant
Jessica is the newest happy face on our team. After practicing for twelve years in orthodontics as a Certified Dental Assistant and Certified Orthodontic Assistant, Jessica decided to further her education. By completing her degree at Washtenaw Community College, she is now a Registered Dental Assistant and brings the latest in dental assisting skills to our office. Twenty-one years ago, Jessica married her high school sweetheart, Sean. The Masons have two girls, Lillian and Adalynn. In addition to the girls, the Mason family also includes furry and feathered companions (dogs and chickens). The Masons enjoy any outdoor activity, especially camping, fishing, and hiking.
Betsy SmithDental Assistant
Although she has been with us for the last seven years, Betsy brings many more years of experience to our office, including orthodontics. Our resident workaholic, Betsy never misses a day of work. When she is not working here, she can be found delivering, catering or refinishing furniture (more work!). Betsy is the mother of five grown children and grandmother of four.
